The Ministry of External Affairs, in an official statement, said that according to the information available, 17 crew members were present on board the vessel at the time of the incident, including five Indian nationals. Four Indian crew members lost their lives in the attack, while one Indian national remains hospitalised in critical condition.
The Ministry of External Affairs reiterated that targeting commercial shipping vessels, endangering innocent civilian crew members, or obstructing freedom of navigation and international commerce is deplorable and must be avoided under all circumstances.
The Indian Mission in Ukraine is closely monitoring the situation and has been making every possible effort to provide assistance and support to those affected by the incident. The Government of India has extended its deepest condolences to the families of the deceased Indian nationals and expressed wishes for the speedy and complete recovery of the injured crew member.
The attack on MV GOLDEN LEO has raised serious concerns over the safety of civilian maritime operations and the protection of commercial shipping routes. India continues to emphasise the importance of safeguarding innocent lives and ensuring uninterrupted freedom of navigation and global trade.
